Parkinson’s Disease Exercise Management

Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive neurological disorder that results in tremors, muscle stiffness, slowed movement (bradykinesia), postural instability, and walking difficulties such as shuffling steps or freezing. Therapy is guided by assessments of balance, posture, and mobility, with a strong focus on practising large, explosive, and exaggerated movements to counter the natural tendency towards smaller, slower actions. Our programs also target walking, coordination, and strength, helping individuals to maintain independence and manage symptoms more effectively.

How We Help

Parkinson’s Disease can cause tremors, muscle stiffness, slowed movement (bradykinesia), and changes in balance and posture. Many people also notice walking difficulties such as shuffling steps, reduced arm swing, or episodes where their feet feel “stuck” to the floor (freezing).
Exercise plays a vital role in managing Parkinson’s. Targeted movement helps improve mobility, flexibility, balance, and strength. Regular therapy can also help maintain walking ability, reduce stiffness, and support overall independence.
People with Parkinson’s often move in smaller, slower ways without realising it. Our therapy focuses on large, powerful, and exaggerated movements to retrain the body and brain. This helps improve posture, step length, arm swing, and overall movement confidence.
We assess balance, posture, walking, and coordination to create a personalised plan. Programs may include walking practice, strength training, balance exercises, and movement strategies to manage freezing or turning. The goal is to help individuals stay active, safe, and independent for as long as possible.
